Loro Jonggrang, or more precisely spelled as Rara Jonggrang / Lara Jonggrang or usually is a popular folk legend or story that comes from Central Java and Yogyakarta in Indonesia. This story tells about the love relationship and guile of a warrior prince and princess who is cursed. This tale also explain the origin of the magic of the Prambanan Temple, Sultan Ratu Baka, and the statue of Goddess Durga are found in the temple of Prambanan. Rara Jonggrang means "virgin (girl) slim".
Story
Once upon a time in ancient times in Central Java, there are two neighboring kingdom, the Kingdom Pengging and the Kingdom of Baka. Pengging is a fertile and prosperous kingdom, led by a wise king named Prabu Damar Maya. Prabu Damar Maya has a son named Raden Bandung Bandawasa, a gallant knight and powerful. Meanwhile, led by the king's royal Baka denawa (giant), a ruthless man-eater named King Baka. In the reign of his kingdom, King Baka assisted by a Patih named Patih Gupala who also is a giant. However, despite coming from a giant nation, King Baka had a very beautiful daughter named Rara Jonggrang. King Baka desire to expand his empire and seize the kingdom Pengging, so they train together Patih Gupala army and collect taxes from people to finance the war.
After proper preparation, along with his hosts stormed King Baka Pengging kingdom. Heavy fighting erupted in the kingdom Pengging between Baka royal army and the royal army Pengging. Many casualties from both sides. As a result of this battle Pengging people suffering from hunger, loss of possessions, many of them are dead. In order to defeat the attackers, Prabu Damar Moyo sent his son, Prince Bondowoso to fight against King Baka.
